ST. LOUIS, MO (HOTELS-STL.com), November 14, 2009 - Hilton at the Ballpark hosted a special preview VIP party, Saturday afternoon, November 14, with the Missouri Film Commission and St. Louis Cinema prior to the premiere of the new George Clooney movie 'Up in the Air'.

While movie clips played on large screens in the hotel's Ballpark Conference Center, guests enjoyed live entertainment with the band Yukon Jake, featured in the movie's wedding scene. An elaborate table arrangement in the center of the room drew many guests back more than once to savor tasty hors d'oeurves while mingling with key members of organizations responsible for bringing the movie crew to St. Louis to film 'Up in the Air'.

"Director Jason Reitman really liked Hilton," Tom Lyons, vp of sales and marketing for Lodging Hospitality Management. "He really believed that the role of Ryan Bingham, played by George Clooney, was written for him to stay at Hilton Hotels. So when he came here to scout locations, we hit it off. He look at our hotels and really wanted Hilton. So I positioned Hilton and Paramount together to be a part in this movie."

"People can identify with the George Clooney character collecting frequent flyer traveler points in this movie and how many Hilton Hotels he stays in," stated Lyons. Clooney takes on the role of a corporate downsizing expert who has accumulated nearly five million frequent flier miles when the company decides to cut back on travel.

"Road warriers spend most of their time in hotels instead of at home. You have Hilton and Hilton Honors that really recognizes the road warriors. People who come to our hotels are now saying 'Wow, they finally made a movie about me'," Lyons said enthusiastically as the band broke into another song.

"We are thrilled to welcome the cast and crew of 'Up in the Air' to St. Louis and to our hotels - we're honored that they have selected our properties for the film," said Bob O'Loughlin, chairman of the St. Louis CVC and CEO/chairman of the board for Lodging Hospitality Management.

O'Loughlin said the key to getting more films produced in Missouri was obtaining tax credit dollars. "We are looking at a couple of more films coming here next year. The goal is to get tax credit dollars to continue bringing these films into St. Louis and into Missouri," he stated."

St. Louis Film Office Director Kim Tucci, former chairman of the Missouri Film Commission, noted that potential economic impact from the "Up in the Air" film could be as much as $60 million. "We were working with just $4.1 million in tax credits to bring the crew to St. Louis to shoot the film. We need more credits in order to bring more films into Missouri. That translates into more jobs for local union workers."

Tucci acknowledged that the current economy has played a big factor in obtaining more credits. "It's so important for the hotel unions and restaurants to work together in this economy. If we create a good experience for the crew, St. Louis becomes known as film-friendly. But without more tax credits, it's really up in the air," stated Tucci with a smile.

'Up In the Air' premiered Saturday night at the Tivoloi Theater in University City as part of the 18th annual Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival. Proceeds from the event benefit Cinema St. Louis.

Movie-goers lucky enough to get a ticket to the sold-out event, enjoyed seeing familiar places through scenes shot at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, Hilton at the Ballpark and Hilton at the Airport.

When the film opens nationwide in December, Hilton Hotel executives hope that the branding recognition in the movie translates into an even bigger role for their Hilton Honors and Hilton Loyalty guest programs.
