Hotels Offer Fitness Programs to Meet Traveler Needs
ST. LOUIS, MO (SLFP.com), January 9, 2005 - Hilton Hotels & Resorts(TM) has signed an exclusive agreement with Bally Total Fitness(R) to provide hotel guests with access to more than 5,000 certified personal trainers at Hilton or Bally locations in major cities throughout North America. In addition, Hilton's Personal Performance Program includes enhancements to its in-room exercise options by offering an in-room "mini gym" designed by Bally Total Fitness at properties across the country. The hotelier plans to debut these services to hotel guests starting Feb. 1, 2005.
The decision by Hilton to join with Bally Total Fitness in this first-of-its-kind hospitality-fitness alliance stemmed from a scientific study conducted on behalf of Hilton Hotels & Resorts by the former director of NASA's Fatigue Countermeasures Program. The Personal Performance Study measured the impact of travel on performance and productivity and found that those who exercise while traveling performed 61 percent better than non-exercisers on alertness and reaction tests.
"Hilton Hotels & Resorts has conducted extensive research throughout its rich history to identify unique opportunities to help our guests enjoy a rewarding travel experience when they stay with us," said Jeffrey Diskin, senior vice president -- brand management & marketing for Hilton. "This new relationship with Bally Total Fitness provides our guests the additional motivation to maintain an existing exercise program, start a new one or simply get the advice and guidance of a certified personal trainer."
Personal training is one of the fastest growing segments of the fitness industry. According to the American Council on Exercise, the number of personal trainers is expected to double in the next three to five years.
Guests also can opt, at no charge, to checkout a Hilton Travel Fit Kit, a mini gym that includes Bally Total Fitness-branded products such as: a yoga mat, elastic exercise bands, resistance tubing, two sets of hand weights and basic conditioning instructions developed by the Bally Total Fitness head trainer that are easily done in the privacy of a guest room.
The Hilton Travel Fit Kits can be used privately by guests or with a certified Bally Total Fitness personal trainer. In addition, professional-quality treadmills are available for in-room use by Hilton guests in more than 100 participating locations for a nominal fee.
"For many people, travel is a lifestyle," said Diskin. "We want to ensure that lifestyle is as healthy, comfortable and enjoyable as possible."
Now health-conscious travelers can stretch, flex and burn calories in the privacy of their hotel rooms with Marriott's new "Great Health - Fit for You" program, which offers complimentary use in-room fitness options that will provide guests with cutting edge exercise choices. Workout offerings including the BodyRev(TM), BodyWedge21(TM) and Michael Sena's Traveling Trainer will be delivered to guestrooms upon request at full-service Marriott and Renaissance hotels in North America beginning in late January 2005.
Marriott is offering three different exercise equipment options including the BodyRev, originally created by former Navy SEAL and professional trainer Alden Mills, a portable exercise device and video routine that uses the body's natural free-flowing movements to deliver a full-body aerobic and strength- training workout in just 15 minutes. It turns a few simple moves into an efficient calorie-burning, muscle-toning, energy-boosting routine. Additionally, Michael Sena, one of America's most respected personal trainer and fitness experts, has partnered with Marriott to offer his versatile, personalized Traveling Trainer kit. The kit, which improves strength, balance and energy, includes fitness-club quality resistance tubes and an easy-to- follow instructional guide.
The third option in Marriott's "Great Health - Fit for You" program is the BodyWedge21(TM), which provides a full-body workout using an incline to target abs, buttocks, thighs, triceps, chest and lower back. Twenty-one different exercises are printed on the large foam wedge.
"Marriott is dedicated to providing our health-conscious travelers with options that meet their own individual needs," sais Bob McCarthy, executive vice president, North American lodging. "The 'Great Health - Fit for You' fitness component was created based on feedback from our guests who said they wanted more fitness options."
The "Fit for You" culinary program, which was created in December 2003 with a breakfast offering, recently added additional features including lunch and dinner restaurant menus, concierge-level selections, room service and catering menus and retail store offerings in three categories -- carb- conscious, low fat and low cholesterol. It also includes low-fat options on the kids' menus. It is available at Marriott Hotels & Resorts locations in North America.
The "Great Health - Fit For You" Program is a component of The New Look and Feel of Marriott Now, a fresh approach influenced by the world's foremost innovations in design, technology, culinary expertise, service and comfort. Guests will begin to experience this evolution across Marriott brands this year, in new hotel designs, exotic destinations, enhanced fitness centers, sumptuous spas and expanded culinary offerings, as well as new luxury bedding.
